Cami Thompson's art career has been a long and varied journey. The common thread that travels throughout her love of painting and drawing is the natural world. Nature is always changing and a constant source of inspiration for the artist.
Cami's paintings are created with the finest quality oils composed of pure color. They are hand mixed with linseed oil resulting in vibrant color combinations. Using linseed oil with thin transparent color takes a great deal of patience. Each painting has 12 to 15 layers of paint resulting in lush layers of transparent color. She finds reds especially challenging. Cami grows Dahlias in her garden. Her love of these many petaled Dutch flowers inspired her to paint their portraits with the same impact the viewer would experience while surrounded by these lovely flowers in her garden. Dahlias are labor intensive to grow. After the first frosts in Fall, the bulbs are dug up and stored over the Winter. The bulbs themselves grow much larger over the years. During the summer Cami takes in the beauty of her garden, weeds, photographs and creates small paintings. "In the Winter I paint prodigiously...no two seasons are alike, no two flowers are alike and no two paintings are alike. Hopefully my love of nature as well as art shines through. I feel these paintings come from the depths of my soul." |
